WAHMs, reviews, giveaways, my coffee addiction, nursing woes, and I love this weather

This week you’ll see the first review in a series of diaper-making WAHMs (working-at-home-moms). The reviews will build up to the Hoppin’ Halloween Giveaway Blog Hop. During the blog hop, you’ll have an opportunity to win cloth diapers from the featured WAHMs! Every week I plan to feature a different WAHM and her cloth diapers, so stay tuned! I’m excited! Are you?!

I’m sitting here on the couch, next to the open balcony. Baby’s napping in his swing. It’s a lovely day outside. When the weather is cool, not cold, cool…I think my mood improves. During the hot of the summer, I rarely like to leave air conditioning. But this time of year…. the leaves are starting to turn yellow and orange, and I just feel happier. I love it.

My son eats every 2 hours around the clock. When he was a newborn, it was really miserable. He’d fall asleep, of course, on and off, and he also used me as a pacifier. This meant I was always, always nursing him. As he got older, he’d eat in 10 minutes or less, so it wasn’t as big of a deal. But lately, he thinks that around 90 minutes, he should be fed. Yeah, I’m not cool with that. He’s reached the 80th percentile, and breastfeeding is definitely well-established, so I think it’s safe to move him to a schedule that I want. Starting this morning, I’m nursing him every 2 hours and 15 minutes. After he seems used to that, I’ll move him to every 2 hours and 30 minutes. I’d like to get him to nurse every 3 hours. Of course, he’ll be starting solids in about 6 or 7 weeks, so that should cut down on the nursing to. I’ve heard moms talk about what a special bonding time nursing is for them. Honestly, for me it’s a chore, and I think if I didn’t have to stop what I was doing so often to nurse him…I think I’d find it a little more special than I currently do.

My parents are coming to visit us for a few days next week, and I’m excited. It doesn’t matter how old you are…mommy and daddy are still mommy and daddy, right? 🙂 The forecast for next week is still in the low 70s, so the weather should be perfect for us to get out and about. Unfortunately, hubby still has to work.

So we bought a Keurig yesterday! As a caffeine addict, I’ve been wanting one for a while. They had a sale at the NEX that was better than any we’ve seen in store or online, so we bought one of the mini Keurigs. I had my daily iced coffee, using my Keurig. 🙂 As a matter of fact, I think I’ll go have another one…

It’s Fitness Friday! (Week 2)

Well, this week was a colossal FAIL. If you remember my goal from last week, I was hoping to be in the 170s by this week. Nope. I’m still 182 lbs. Here’s why I fail, last weekend (as in RIGHT after the last Fitness Friday), I dropped down to 180. I was so close to the 170s! Then on Sunday night I had a (delicious) burger and fries. Monday I ate a Panini and pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks. Tuesday I had two tacos from Tijuana Flats. Or maybe that was Wednesday? I’m missing a day…hmmm…but the point is that I’ve been eating way over my planned calorie amount without upping my exercise. Yesterday was my first day at the gym this entire week. And then I ate half a large pizza afterwards. Yup, I did. It was delicious.

Current Stats:

Still 182 lbs.

Activities Performed:

45 minutes of cardio at the gym

2 hours of leisurely walking

1 hour of brisk walking

Diet Changes:

I ate badly this week (processed food, things high in sodium, things high in fat, etc.). I also didn’t log into MyFitnessPal for 3 days in a row.

Next Week’s Goals:

To get into the 170s!!!

Our first blow out…

…in cloth diapers. This makes me very sad. Of course, it happened right when we were about to leave for church, and Mr. Stinky Pants messed up his church clothes. I’m disappointed that I can no longer brag that he’s never had a blow out since switching to cloth, but at least it’s only ONE. He was wearing a GroVia AI1. I’ve always loved that it’s a very narrow diaper, because it fits well under his clothes. But today the narrowness couldn’t hold the poo inside. In defense of GroVia, he was hopping around in his Jumperoo when this happened. Also, I knew that he would probably poop this morning, so I probably should’ve started him off with a huge all-bum-encompassing diaper.

On a different note, some weeks ago, I bragged about this amazing, delicious polenta dish that I made, but I had completely forgotten to take photos of it to post, until it was too late. Last night, I made the same dish, planning to take photos this time. I forgot again!!! What’s wrong with my mind these days! I know that I haven’t been getting enough sleep, so I’m sure that’s a big part of the problem.

One of these days, I will get that polenta dish recipe with photos posted on this blog. I really love polenta. It’s very inexpensive to make, and it’s so easy too! For someone lacking in the culinary department like myself, dishes that even I can successfully pull-off…you KNOW they’ve gotta be simple!

Since I’m on the topic of polenta, this dish from my friend over at The Fresh Kitchen looks fantastic! I’m hoping to try it this week. Maybe I’ll remember to take photos this time. 🙂

I’ve been slacking again at posting. I’ve mentioned before that my goal is to post every day, but we’ve been very busy around our home this week. I haven’t been able to make it to the gym as often as I should either.

I did get to the fabric store today. I need a couple more supplies before I start on my venture of making my own cloth diaper. I tried to make a fitted diaper out of a prefold a few days ago, and the result was hilarious. I will post photos eventually, so you can laugh at me. But I want to make one decent-looking diaper first, so you all won’t think I’m a complete creative disaster when you see my poor fitted diaper. 🙁 It IS pretty funny looking though, I’ve gotta admit that!

I’ve also been slacking at reading other’s blogs and responding to comments on this blog. I need to rectify that.

You may have noticed that my blog no longer has a “Home” page of my latest posts. I’m still having issues, so currently typing in http://mylifeaworkinprogress.com/ will bring readers straight to the “About” page. It’s a temporary fix, but I’m not sure how long temporary means.

Tomorrow morning, my son goes in for his 4-month check up. I’m a little nervous about that. I’m always nervous going to the doctor, and I’m especially nervous since it’s about my son. He’ll be getting shots, as well. Not all of them (I think some vaccinations are unnecessary), but enough to upset him and upset me. Tomorrow will probably be a rough day in our home.

I will be posting my review on Glow Bug Cloth Diapers tomorrow. They were kind enough to send me a diaper to review, and I’m very excited to share with you my experiences using this diaper! Don’t forget to enter the grand prize giveaway of the Green Family Giveaway. The winner of the grand prize will receive a full stash of Glow Bug diapers!
