My belly makes me sad.

Losing the extra pregnancy pounds is turning out to not be an easy thing for me. Next time I’m expecting, I don’t care how hungry I am…I’m sticking to a very controlled diet! Working out while pregnant would probably be a good thing too. I’ll admit that I wasn’t nearly as active as I should’ve been. I was working full time, and my husband was deployed. All I did was work until about dinner time, go home, eat, and then vegetate until bed time. I know ultimately it’s just an excuse, but I had no motivation to go work out. Also, there really was no good place to work out in the small town I was living in at the time. I’m still exclusively breastfeeding my son, and I’m hoping once he starts solids in a couple of months and I’m nursing less, that I’ll start to lose weight more quickly.

I joined a gym a couple of weeks ago, and I’ve been going regularly. But days like today, I haven’t been particularly motivated. My husband was taking a computer course at work the last couple of days, and was able to leave work very early today. Since he was home for lunch, I made pasta. With all those carbs in my stomach, I just felt gross today. I made myself go to the gym, but all I wanted to do is eat a pint of ice cream. I know that’s completely counterproductive, but that’s the way my mind works. I guess I eat when I’m unhappy.

I’m sure we all wish this, but wouldn’t it be nice if we saw results from working out in just a couple of days? It would be so motivating! The difficult part is expending the effort, and feeling like there are no results. I know, I know…I just have to keep at it. It will pay off eventually, right? :/

Hubby doesn’t want me to buy any more cloth diapers, but I’m addicted. They’re so cute! So the compromise is that I’ll make my own. How hard can it be? Don’t answer that. I was already planning on turning some prefolds into fitted diapers, but now I’m going to try all types. If I already blogged about this, I apologize. I’m so scatterbrained now days. I also find another gray hair every couple of days. I never had them before I became a mom. So it’s true that kids do give you gray hair!!!!

Anyway, don’t forget about the current Hidden Treasure Candle and Softbums giveaway going on right now! You can enter right here on my blog. The Green Family Giveaway is coming up very soon along with my Glow Bug diaper review.

I’m currently working on a review of the Bumkins one size All-In-One cloth diaper, and that should be up tomorrow.

I hope you’re having a great night! If you haven’t already connected with me on Facebook, please consider “liking” my page. Thanks!

  1. I feel like I have a week or two of progress with losing baby weight, and then I have a huge step back. It does get easier, though, once the baby isn’t nursing as much. Not really because nursing has a ton to do with it, but more because you slowly get back to feeling more like yourself and you have more energy to work out. Don’t be so hard on yourself- you’ll get there. Slow and steady.

    1. It would probably help if I weren’t sitting here munching on mini Hershey’s kisses!!! That’s why I don’t keep stuff like this in the house. I bought them to add to cookies for J’s co-workers, but then I didn’t use them all. We really don’t have any snacks at all. Hmmm…that could actually be a negative. I may need to buy some carrot sticks or something along that line!

  2. I have never been a gum chewer, but when I tried to start losing weight I just CRAVED having something in my mouth, so I gave it a try. Whenever I feel a ridiculous urge to eat everything in sight, I tell myself that first I must drink a giant glass of water and then I must chew a piece of gum until it has lost all it’s flavor, and then if I still want a bad snack I can have it–just a little. Usually I forget about the snack by the time I’m done with my gum. For me, weight loss has been all about healthy food and portion control. I have lost 41 lbs since February with very little exercising. Instead of exercising, I try to be “active”; I play with my kids, I go on walks, I do yard work. Good luck to you–weight loss is a long, hard road, but sooooo worth it!

    1. Sandi,

Gum chewing is a great idea! And that’s awesome you lost 41 lbs!!! I’m struggling with even losing a pound at this point, but I definitely will try the gum. Thank you!

  3. You burn up to 500 calories per day nursing exclusively. I lost all but 6 pounds of my baby weight. I lost most of it within the first 3 weeks of breastfeeding. I’ve kept it off and I continue to stay in shape because of the 5 Zumba Fitness classes I teach per week. I also, workout in my gym (resistance training) 3 days a week, and I practice my Zumba choreography 1-2 hours everyday. I stay very active aside from mommy and wife duties. Being a first time mommy and being in the career field that I am, I was concerned with getting back to my pre-pregnancy body. Let’s face it – would you want to pay 100 of dollars for a personal trainer who was out of shape? I wouldn’t!

I know that people hate exercising. I used to be that way and getting back into it after 4 weeks of maternity leave without exercising has been difficult. Luckily I love teaching Zumba and started teaching my classes 4 weeks and 1 day postpartum. It does help to stay active during your pregnancy. I taught all of my classes up to my 40 weeks. My last class was on my due date and then Elora Danan was 2 days late.

I want to encourage you to keep it up. Soon you’ll begin to enjoy it. Find a Zumba Class. If you’ve never tried it before you SHOULD! They are fun and you can go at your own pace. You won’t even feel like you’re working out. Eating a well-balanced diet is also very important. Proper nutrition is 60%, exercise is 20% and genetics is 20%. Keep up with MyFitnessPal. Carbs are not the enemy. You just have to eat the right kind. The ones that take the longest to breakdown. I can send you tons of fitness and nutrition advise if you want. I LOVE what I do! I LOVE helping other be fit and helthy.

Sorry if this is just one big run-on. I should be asleep, not reading through your entire blog!
