Poop Day

Today is poop day for my son. You see, he no longer does one or two little poops every day. Now he saves up his poop for a couple of days, and then poops it all out like Niagara Falls on Ex-lax three or four times in one day. Since he’s cloth diapered, sunning his diapers has become my favorite way to get any stains out. Don’t know what sunning diapers is? I’ll post an explanation tomorrow along with photos of the process and results. It’s not just for cloth diapers either!

Several items came in the mail today that I’m very excited over. I mean, who doesn’t love getting their purchases in the mail! Free stuff would be better, of course. But this still made me happy.

My Ruby Moon Cloth Diaper Detergent- Warm Vanilla Sugar arrived. It’s cloth diaper safe and made without phosphates, enzymes, or brighteners. I’ve been using Rockin Green detergent from Diaper Junction for my diapers and have no complaints, but I’m always wanting to try new things.

I also received Ruby Moon wipe bits. They’re basically tiny little soaps made out of goat’s milk that can be dissolved to make your own solution for cloth wipes. When I opened the bag of this stuff and smelled it, I wanted to rub it all over my body. It smelled that good! After I check out how well they work with wipes, I’ll write a review.

Annnnd a diaper I’d ordered from Amazon arrived. It’s for nighttime diapering: Bummis Tots Bots Bamboozle Stretch Diaper, Size 2 (9-35 Pounds). It’s made with a bamboo blend, making it more absorbent than regular cotton. This makes the 4th diaper we have that we intend to use specifically for nighttime diapering. It’s in the wash, prepping right now, woot woot! 🙂

Diaper Junction has a deal going on now through Sept. 3 of free shipping for orders $19 or more. No coupon necessary! They also have a great Stash Cash program. Basically, you get points back for items you purchase. You can redeem the points for stash cash and purchase from their site. I redeemed points today and got a FuzziBunz pocket diaper for 6 bucks! That’s a great deal! And of course I received points for making that order.

We really, really need to buy new D batteries. The swing we borrowed from my sister in law takes D batteries, and for the longest time it was the only place my son would nap other than on top of my chest. He loves it, but he’s so big now that the batteries seem to die a lot quicker. It takes so much energy for the swing to move him! Anyway, I can see the power light flickering, which means it’s getting close to dying. I only hope it lasts until we get to the store!

Confession time: I really didn’t get that much done today. I’m not feeling well. First it was a stomach ache, and now it’s queasiness (no, I’m not pregnant). I just feel kind of bummed in general. So that was my excuse to not do much. It’s okay for once in a while to not work your bum off trying to be Super Mom, right?

Nursery, giveaways, and cloth diapers

Mr. Stinky Pants did fine in the church nursery today…the same nursery he freaked out in two Sundays ago. It seriously seems like when hubby’s around, he’s an angel. When it’s just Momma, he’s fussy! This was us this morning. Doesn’t he look thrilled to be with me?

When I picked him up at the nursery, he was being held by a cute teenage girl, and he was grinning at her. Little flirt.

I was ecstatic yesterday when I realized our local Navy Exchange (NEX) carries Bumkins all-in-one one size cloth diapers! We bought two, and I’m currently testing them out on my son before writing a review. Let me say that the prints on these diapers are absolutely adorable. 🙂

There are a lot of great things coming up next month!

Don’t forget about the Hidden Treasure Candle giveaway over on Jenn’s Blah Blah Blog. The event starts Sept. 5 and ends Oct. 5. If you’re a blogger, you can sign up for some free opportunities to get your blog name out there, so check it out!

I’ll also be hosting a giveaway on this blog next month as part of the Green Family Giveaway Event! The event is hosted by Formula Mom and Glow Bug Cloth Diapers. Bloggers can still sign up here.

In September, I will be reviewing a Glow Bug diaper in one of the new boy prints! I’ve heard a lot of great things recently about these diapers, and the new prints are in the process of being revealed by the company, so this is an exciting opportunity for me.

Have a great night!

Review: Kiwi Pie One Size Fitted Diaper

As I mentioned in one of my recent posts, the Kiwi Pie One Size Fitted Diaper is my favorite diaper for night-time. We only had one until today when I picked up a second one (in Toadstool print) from Diaper Junction that my mother in law had bought us. Look how cute!

So I thought it was time to review the Kiwi Pie.

(BTW, talking about Kiwi Pie is making me think about my Avocado Pie the other day…)

We’ve used a Kiwi Pie One Size Fitted Diaper every other night for a few weeks now. It’s in the Ooga Booga print -a popular print for cloth diapers, I’ve noticed.

The two rows of snaps on this diaper allow it to be adjusted from a small to large setting, making this a one-size-fits-most diaper. It’s designed to fit approximately 8 to 35 pounds. There’s elastic around the legs and across the back. My son is quite large for his age, but his legs aren’t super chunky. This diaper does not leave marks on his legs.

This diaper is extremely soft! The outside is made out of 100% cotton, and the inside is 75% bamboo and 25% spandex, so it has a nice little bit of stretch to it.

It comes with two inserts, that can be snapped together and laid inside the diaper to double the diaper’s absorbency. Bamboo is a fantastic fabric for cloth diapers. It’s 60% more absorbent than cotton, and can hold up to three times its weight in water. It’s also naturally antibacterial and a more sustainable crop to grow than cotton. Since it’s bamboo, it needs to be prepped before the first use by washing and drying it three to five times. This helps the diaper reach its full potential for absorbency.

Since it’s not a waterproof diaper, it has to be used with a diaper cover. Recently, I’ve started putting a fleece-covered microfiber insert in the diaper as well (see my tutorial here). The diaper’s absorbency was fine without it, but the microfiber just wicked moisture away from his skin a little better than the bamboo alone. The insert I add makes the diaper a little bulky, but that’s normal for nighttime cloth diapering. Mr. Stinky Pants has never had a leak in this diaper, and he’s worn this diaper for up to five hours overnight (without the additional insert). When he’s a little older, and peeing in greater concentration, I may have to adjust what inserts I’m using for more absorbency.

I have other bamboo diapers, but the Kiwi Pie is my favorite because it dries much quicker than the others.

And possibly the best thing about the Kiwi Pie One Size Fitted Diaper…

It’s made in the good ol’ USA!
