The Best Cloth Diapers for Diapering at Night

Now, I have to admit that I haven’t tried wool covers yet, and I know many people swear by them. But the solution I have found, works great for us. I was so excited when Diaper Junction started stocking Tots Bots Bamboozle diapers again! Kiwi Pie fitted diapers and Bamboozle fitted diapers are the best cloth diapers for overnight use! My son has worn these diapers for 8-12 hours straight overnight, and he’s never had a leak. Paired with GroVia Magic Stick, my son has never had a diaper rash from prolonged time in these diapers either.

Bamboozle fitted diapers are made with a bamboo/rayon fabric mix for exceptional absorbency. Additionally, bamboo is one of the most eco-friendly choices of fabric out there, and it’s known to be antimicrobial. Bamboo is also known for its moisture-wicking properties. Kiwi Pie has both bamboo/lyrca (spandex) diapers and micro modal/pima cotton diapers. Micro modal is a very absorbent fabric made from beech trees.

The Kiwi Pie fitted diaper is a one-size diaper. The two snaps about midway on the diaper are used to adjust it from a small to a large size. The diaper also comes with a small and large insert. These two inserts are made to be snapped together for additional absorbency. The inserts just lie in the diaper, so they can be moved up or down depending on where your child needs the most absorbency. The Bamboozle is a two-size diaper. Size one is for babies 5-18 lbs., and size two fits about 9-35 lbs. This diaper is very soft and stretchy, even after repeated washing. It comes with one snap-in insert. It has a hidden microfiber core for even more absorbency and moisture-wicking ability.  Although they only come with a hook and loop fastening (no snaps!), the fastening is very strong. This diaper would not be easy for a child to unfasten by him or herself. I have other fitted diapers, and some of them are as absorbent as the Kiwi Pie and the Bamboozle. What makes these two stand out to me is how quickly they both dry for a super-absorbent, fitted diaper. If I leave them hanging outside in full sun, they’re dry in a few hours. I have to put my other fitted diapers in full sun all day long, morning through evening, in order for them to line dry.

Kiwi Pie fitted diapers are at the high end of the diaper price range. The micro modal blend retails for $27.95 from Diaper Junction, but it is well worth it to have at least a couple of these in your stash. The Bamboozle fitted diaper is $19.95. Considering its absorbency and quality, this is a great price!

Since these fitted diapers are not waterproof, I always use a diaper cover over them (usually a Flip cover).

What DID I do today?

Well, today was a busy day. Although, as usual, when I actually list what I completed, it doesn’t seem like that much. Do any other moms feel like this? Like you’re busy all day, but nothing really got done?

I did do the diaper laundry. For once, it was actually sunny all day, so I was able to save some electricity and dry the majority of the diapers outside. I love being able to sun dry the diapers. It’s great for disinfecting and whitening them.

Mr. Stinky Pants and I went to Hancock Fabrics to pick up a few items I needed for DIY projects. I ran out of thread for my table-cloth/place mat project. We also stopped at the grocery store and picked up a few things.

Oh, and Hubby came home for lunch, and I cooked for him. So I did get some stuff done…

And I bathed Mr. Stinky Pants! Okay, so there’s a few things on my list =D

I’ve been planning on baking cookies for my husband’s duty section on his ship, but I really suck at baking cookies. I know that sounds ridiculous; cookies are very easy to make. But my problem is I burn them. I always burn at least the first batch and usually the second. To skip some steps, today I bought one of those premade cookie batches in a tube. It’s the peanut butter kind, and I bought some Hersheys milk chocolate chips to go in them. So peanut butter chocolate chips for his coworkers. Here’s hoping I don’t burn ALL of them!

I have “Heathers” playing on Netflix right now. Can you believe I’ve never seen it before? Considering all the active shooter situations lately, you’d think this was a recent movie based on recent events. It’s labeled as a dark comedy, but I’m not really seeing the comic side.

Once I get the baby in bed (he’s napping near me in the swing right now…didn’t want me to leave him alone in bed), I’m going to work on cleaning up some more. I have some bins of teaching materials I need to go through and consolidate. Although I’m not teaching right now while Jeremiah’s a baby (and since we’re moving to Europe soon), I do plan on teaching again.

So that’s about it for today. Not very exciting. That’s my life. Not exciting. Not anymore.

Review: Thirsties Duo All-In-One Cloth Diaper

I love all-in-one diapers because of their simplicity. So far I have AI1s from GroVia, BumGenius, and Bumkins, but I was looking for something new to add to the stash. I’m slightly hesitant where Thirsties are concerned, since my son grew out of their size one fitted diapers by the time he was three months old (about 14 lbs.), although the sizing says 6-18 lbs. or 0-9 months. But I thought it’s only fair to give Thirsties another try, so I purchased a Thirsties Duo AI1 in size two from my go-to store for cloth diapers: Diaper Junction.

Since they are the closest to disposables, AI1 diapers are great for babysitters, church nurseries, daycares, and reluctant cloth diaper users (hubby likes them). They go on in one piece and come off in one piece.

The Thirsties Duo AI1 is very affordable for an AI1. This diaper retails for $15.75 from Diaper Junction. For the price, it really does have a lot to offer!

Thirsties Duo All In One Cloth Diaper- Size Two

Thirsties Duo AI1 comes in sizes one and two. The row of three snaps on each diaper allows them to be adjusted for smaller or larger babies. Thirsties states their size one fits 6-18 lbs. or 0-9 months. Size two fits approximately 18-40 lbs. or 9-36 months. There’s a row of eight snaps across the waist. Although there aren’t any hip snaps, my son had no issues with “wing” drooping.

The inside center of this diaper is quite thick due to the built-in three-layer microfiber terry soaker, reported to hold seven times its weight in liquid. I read a complaint on another site where the reviewer thought the built-in soaker was too short for a boy, and needed to come up higher in the front. However, Mr. Stinky Pants didn’t have any issues with peeing out the top of the diaper, and when the diaper is actually on him, it looks to me like the soaker comes up high enough. Perhaps this will change as he gets older?

The soaker is topped with stay-dry fleece, so nothing irritating touches baby’s skin.

Although many of Thirsties diapers come with leg gussets, sadly, the AI1 does not. Unless you have a little guy or gal with skinny legs, this really shouldn’t be a turn off. My boy doesn’t have a lot of extra rolls or chunk, and he’s never (yet) had a blow out in any of his cloth diapers, gussets or no. But if gussets are something you’re really looking for, check out the Thirsties Duo Diaper. The leg elastic is thick which makes it less likely to leave marks on baby’s legs. (To be honest, marks don’t really bother me anyway. They don’t hurt him, and the diaper does need to be tight enough that runny breastfed poo can’t seep out.)

The signature tunnel design allows for faster drying and better washing. When I dry the diaper, I usually turn it inside out to speed up drying. The tunnel area is pretty narrow, but you potentially could even slide an insert in there for additional absorbency.

 As I mentioned earlier, my son grew out of his size one Thirsties Fab Fitted diaper and Duo Wrap by the time he was three months. This does lead me to speculate whether or not the size two will actually fit him to potty training. Here he is in his size two Thirsties Duo AI1. He’s just shy of 4 months in this photo, and about 16 pounds. I’ve got it on the smallest setting, and there does seem to be plenty of room to grow in the waist and rise. It’s a little bulky under the crotch, but he’ll grow into that.

These diapers come in both solids and prints. My son is in the “Scottish Storm” print with snaps. You can purchase them in Aplix hook and loop closures as well. What’s also great about these diapers is that they’re made in the U.S.A.!

I would buy this diaper again. It fits well. It’s very absorbent. It’s holding up well after several washes, and it’s affordable for an AI1. You get a lot of bang for your buck with this diaper.
