Review: Bib & Burp Cloth Set by Beautiful Burps

“Making burping beautiful, one beautiful burp at a time” is the motto of “Beautiful Burps,” a home business run by mom Courtney.

Beautiful Burps

I’m always excited to work with WAHMs (working-at-home moms), since they’re mothers like myself. I find keeping up with Baby J and the housework to be a challenge, but these women manage children, home, and business all at once. I admire them for that.

Courtney was born and raised in Newport Beach, Calif. She attended Corona del Mar High School and graduated from Hollins University. After marrying, she relocated to Chino Hills, Calif. Courtney began making burp cloths while pregnant with her baby boy (now an adorable 1 year old). She was asked by family and friends to make burp cloths sets. Many of them suggested she start her own business, so Beautiful Burps was born.

BB cardAs burp cloths go, these really are beautiful. Courtney sent me a Sock Monkey Bib & Burp Cloth set to review, and I absolutely love the patterns and color coordination.

The reversible bib is made with absorbent 100 percent cotton and features a button closure.

The burp cloth is made from a prefold cloth diaper, and it’s definitely the most absorbent burp cloth we have. If you’re unfamiliar with the different types of cloth diapers, the prefold diaper is made with several absorbent layers of fabric (cotton, in this case) sewn on top of each other. The middle of the prefold is the most absorbent part, since it has extra layers (usually 6-8), so this burp cloth really does soak up a lot of liquid!

Our experiences:

The Bib-

Although Baby J is nearly 8 months old and past the profusely spitting up stage, he has reached the drooling buckets of goo stage. From the moment he wakes up until PJs time again, he usually has a bib affixed to his adorable neck. I am able to use this bib for about four hours before the bottom layer starts to feel damp, and I switch it out with another.

Note: I usually remove Baby J’s bibs before going in public, because…frankly…most of his bibs are ugly. This sock monkey bib though, I leave on him when we go out, because it’s the cutest bib I’ve seen!

The Burp Cloth-

Courtney also recommends these burp cloths can be used as changing pads when on the go, as a blanket, or under a baby’s head while sleeping to protect from spit up or drool. I agree! We found multiple uses for our burp cloth. The burp cloth was wonderful for cleaning up drool, banana surprise and other solid foods, and the little bit of spit up Baby J still gets. It measures 14″x18″, so it’s a good-sized burp cloth.

This bib and burp cloth set appears well-constructed, and the stitching looks even. The pattern choice and coordination is perfect. They do exactly what they’re meant to do and very well. I think a set of these would be a beautiful addition to any mom and baby’s stash of necessaries!

Besides the bib and burp cloth set, Courtney makes and sells individual bibs, individual burp cloths, and burp cloth sets of three. She even has decorated onesies and cross over shirts available!

Review: LayNGo Activity Mat Lite from Pish Posh Baby

Recently, I was given the opportunity to review the LayNGo Activity Mat Lite from the store Pish Posh Baby. By use of a drawstring, the LayNGo activity mat converts into a bag or satchel to help carry toys on the go. It also makes toy clean up much easier, and gives kids a clean surface to play on even when out of the house.

This version of the LayNGo is “lite,” since it measures 18″ compared to the 5′ full version. Since it’s made with nylon, it’s easy to wipe off when dirty or sticky from little hands. The one I reviewed is reversible with pink on one side and blue on the other, but several different colors (like green, orange, and red) are available.

There’s a small pocket (closable by velcro) on each side for storing the drawstring, whether you’re using the pink or blue side. The drawstring could still be a choking hazard for small children, so I made sure to always supervise my son when the bag was out. There’s also a nylon handle to allow the bag to be easily carried.

When I first received it, my initial thought was the LayNGo Lite seemed more appropriate for older children who play with Legos, K’NEX, and Polly Pocket. But I was wrong. It’s very convenient to use with my 7-month old! I use it most often to haul his teethers and smaller toys with us over to a friend’s place for a play date or to the store or restaurant. I like that it keeps his toys together in one clean, concise place, so I’m not digging for them.

To me, the only negative aspect of the activity mat is the price. It retails for $24.95, which could be a drawback for families who are tight on money.

The real test, of course, is whether or not Baby J likes it:

I want to mention something quickly that I came across. I didn’t have the opportunity to review it, but Pish Posh Baby also has a Lay-N-Go COSMO for transporting and storing cosmetics. It’s the same idea as the activity mat, but the outside is made of quilted polyester, and the COSMO has a couple of different features. I love the idea for my makeup! It’s perfect for traveling or the every day. I can spread all my makeup out in front of me instead of digging around in my makeup bag, getting my fingers covered in powder. Then, it quickly wraps up with the pull of a cord. I need this!

Review: Little Green Pouch

I’ve decided to do more product reviews of things I have around the house, things that we use regularly. My goal is to give more moms like myself some opinions and reviews to go on for regular household and family items.

My son is about 7.5 months old now and has been eating solids since 6 months. The Little Green Pouch is a patent-pending reusable food pouch that I use to transport and store Baby J’s food.

Little Green Pouch

The Little Green Pouch is BPA and phthalate free, so it’s safe for the little ones. It’s also dishwasher and freezer safe. Before washing, I rinse all the baby food out, and then place the pouch over a prong in the top shelf of the dishwasher. The prong ensures it stays open to be cleaned.

To fill with food, just open the top seal, spoon in the food, and reseal it afterwards. It has 2, 4, and 6 oz. marked on the back, so you know how much food your putting in. The first time I filled it, I made a bit of a mess with the spoon, since the opening isn’t real wide. I was more careful subsequent times, and there was less mess. They do sell collapsible funnels to go with the pouches, which will probably really help avoid messes.

Besides the funnel, another accessory worth considering is the Boon dispensing spoon, since the pouch is compatible with it.

One thing I don’t like about the pouch is the ridges around the dispenser. I’m assuming they’re necessary to use with the spoon, but the food gets stuck in it. This is a little annoying when I’m putting it back into the diaper bag. I sometimes rinse the food off, but I don’t always have a water source to do so. If I wipe it with a napkin or burp cloth, it doesn’t quite come clean.

The design of the pouch is quite thin, so little hands can hold it, but this also means it won’t stand upright, like a Capri Sun pouch.

Overall, it does the job, and I like it (not quite love). I would buy more.

Do you own a Little Green Pouch? Like it, love it, hate it?

Note: I purchased the above items for personal use. I was not compensated for this post.
