Review: VacciShield- nutritional support for infants and kids during immunizations

Note: I was sent a complimentary container of VacciShield to review. This post is not meant to start a debate regarding vaccines. I believe in a parent’s right to choose whether vaccinations are best for his or her child and their situation. If you do choose to vaccinate, my hope is this review might help make the process a little easier on you and your little one.

VacciShield

About:

Made in the USA, VacciShield by WellFuture is specially formulated to provide nutritional support for infants and children during vaccinations. Naturopathic physician and mother, Catherine Clinton, founded WellFuture in 2010 while seeking additional support for her infant son during the vaccination process. Packaged in a BPA-free container, this gluten and dairy-free supplement does not contain any artificial coloring, flavoring, or preservatives. Ingredients comprise: L-Glutamine, Probiotics, Zinc, Vitamin C, Vitamin D3, Selenium, Vitamin E, Choline and Inositol. Read more HERE about the benefits of each.

There are no known side effects to using VacciShield, and the dietary supplement meets the Dietary Health and Supplement Act (DHSA) and the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act safety standards.

VacciShield retails for $26.99, and each container provides a complete round of 14 servings for one child (four to six years). This means that for infants (six to 14 months), each container contains three complete rounds of 14 servings. As long as the VacciShield container remains refrigerated and has yet to reach the expiration date, it can be used for multiple rounds of vaccinations. VacciShield can be given to infants by mixing it with liquids such as breast milk or formula. Older children can also take VacciShield with soft food.

WellFuture has partnered with Vitamin Angels, a charitable organization that “helps at-risk populations in need—specifically pregnant women, new mothers, and children under five—gain access to lifesaving and life changing micronutrients.” WellFuture has made a 1-1 for matching nutrient grant for each purchase of VacciShield.

Our Experiences:

I followed the guidelines, and started giving Baby J two scoops daily 10 days before his 15- month vaccinations and continued until he’d received 14 servings. I actually missed one day before his shots, but just added a day at the end. I mixed it with his milk in his sippy cup, and he drank it with no problem. If it changed the taste of the milk, he never reacted. Here’s a photo of the container, powder, and scoop:

It’s difficult for me to tell whether it made a difference in Baby J’s reactions to his immunizations. He didn’t get a fever, but sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn’t. For a day or two after his vaccines, he seemed a little fussy, but his sleep was also a little off, since we had guests staying with us. He didn’t slow down though, that’s for sure. Baby J was as active as ever! Keeping my son healthy is important to me, and sometimes he’s a picky eater. A food he may like one day, he decides to hate the next. I’m happy just knowing that VacciShield provided nutritional support to boost his immune system.
