Review: Handana- sweatbands for running, yoga, cycling, and more!

Although I’ve slowed down my half-marathon training to running just twice a week during the holidays, I’ll be picking up the pace soon in the New Year.

One of the things I dislike most about running is the sweat on my face. A good headband keeps my head/hair sweat from trickling down my face, but won’t do anything about my forehead sweat, etc. It’s gross talking about sweat, I know, but that’s part of working out!

Sometimes I remember to bring a little towel with me that I toss in the jogging stroller, but it’s not the most convenient thing to reach for while I’m running. If I’m running without the stroller, then the towel’s just not an option, since I have no way to carry it.

The folks at MyHandana.com sent me one of their Handanas to review. Made of a soft, durable Supplex™ Lycra™ fabric, the handana is worn wrapped around your hand. Use both sides of the Handana to easily wipe sweat from your eyes, forehead, etc. You still have complete movement of your hand and fingers, which is important if you’re biking or want to use your water bottle or open snacks.

Use your Handana for running, yoga, tennis, Zumba, etc. Multiple size and colors are available, and Handanas retail from $13.99 (on sale) to $15.99. Best yet, Handanas are made right here in the USA! See the styles HERE.

Handanas are sweat bands that slip on and wrap around your hand. They're convenient and they work! Find out more on My Life: A Work in Progress

I received the True Red on White Handana in size medium. It’s stretchy and very comfortable to wear, and I got used to the feeling of having something on my hand in just a few minutes. It fits on either hand, which is convenient. I’ve also worn the Handana over my Nike tech running gloves on a cold day.

I haven’t used one of the wrist sweatbands, so I can’t compare the two, but the Handana does a great job of soaking up sweat from my face, and it’s easy to toss in the washing machine with my workout clothes. From looking at wrist sweatbands in the store, I’d say the Handana has a much larger surface area. I’d also assume it’s easier to reach areas of your neck and face with your hand than your wrist.

Review: Halo flashlights (practical and stylish)

I love anything that’s useful and stylish! Why not be both?

Did you catch my post on Pocket Power portable chargers? And Ruth’s post on the Scanner Mouse? Halo also sent me several of their flashlights that I then passed out to a few friends/family. I always love hearing someone else’s opinion on a product.

The Halo Zoom metal flashlight comes as a set of three for $20.95. The zoom has an adjustable range of light, from wide to narrow. You can determine how much brightness you need for the task at hand. The on/off button glows in the dark, and there’s an emergency flash feature (strobe). These flashlights are available in black, blue, green, purple, and red.

With an aluminum body and nine LED bulbs per flashlight, the Halo Animal and Floral Print Flashlights are functional and stylish. A set of five (floral print or animal print) costs $39.95, and each flashlight is packaged individually with a matching patterned box. This makes it easy to split the set up as gifts, prizes, or favors.

Now, for the opinions-

What I like about Halo flashlights: They’re small, so great for a purse or diaper bag. They work, and the bulbs are surprisingly powerful. And I love the patterns available.

What “P” likes about his Halo Zoom flashlight: “The one I have is green with the adjustable size spotlight, a low, high, and strobe setting. They should ditch the strobe setting [he can’t think of a good application], but everything else was great. I used it when working on the car.”

What “N” likes about her flashlight: “It’s been nice to carry in my purse. Used it several times. Very bright, and I like adjustable spotlight.”

If I get any more feedback (*cough* That would be you, “E”), I’ll add it in above!

Three of the flashlights I received from Halo2Cloud.com.

Which flashlight would you love to carry?

Review: Corset Chick

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

For years now I’ve watched other women wear corset tops, and I’ve loved the look but never thought I could pull it off. I have no idea what body type I have. I take the online surveys and read the guides, but to no avail…I don’t fit in any one mold. I think maybe I’m a little bit inverted triangle, but my shoulders really aren’t super broad…so I just don’t know. I do have a small bust for my height and build, which is why I never thought I could pull off a corset top. I thought it would just gap on me around the chest. But when I was given the opportunity to review a corset top, I thought…why not?

I received the black burlesque with pink stripes corset, currently on sale for $18. I wasn’t able to choose which one I wanted. If I had been, I’d probably have gone with a solid black corset, because I was really hoping for something I could wear to a restaurant, etc., on the rare date with my husband.

Pink Corset Top

The first time I put the corset on, I struggled with it a good 10 or 15 minutes. I had to loosen the ribbons (laces) in the back, and then they ended up too loose and started coming off all the way. Eventually I realized there’s a zipper on the side of the corset. Oh. So all you really need to do is loosen the ribbons, zip the corset around you, and then tighten the ribbons. It would still be easier to tighten them, if you have someone to help you, but I think it’s something you can get better at the more you do it.

There are actually two sets of laces in the back. One starts on the bottom, and the other set starts at the top. This allowed me to get different fits for my thicker waist and smaller bust. When I pull really tight on the top, I’m able to get the corset tight enough that it doesn’t gap around the bust. Score!

I was pleased with the quality of this corset. It’s a lot nicer than I would’ve expected for an under-twenty-dollars corset. As I’ve mentioned, it laces up in the back, but there’s a zipper on the side. The corset itself is about 14 1/2″ long (for reference, I’m 5’10”). The bra cups are underwire for support, and there are 12 light-weight bones throughout the corset to give it (and you) shape. It also comes with a matching black thong.

Since I wanted a corset I would feel comfortable wearing in public, I ended up cutting off the bows and pairing the corset with skinny jeans and a black knit cardigan. I think it’s probably still a little too ruffled for a regular date night. What do you think? Any changes you can suggest that would tone it down a bit?

Corset Top from Corset Chick

Corset Chick also carries plus size corsets, as well as leggings, shape wear, and other types of lingerie. They have a large clearance section too.

Which corset top would you choose?

Note: I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
