Review: Magic Whiteboard

Magic Whiteboard Banner HorizontalHave you heard of Magic Whiteboard Products? They make several innovative products to make life a little easier (and greener) for teachers, students, parents, businesses, and others. I think almost anyone could find a useful purpose for these products.

I received one Magic Letter Sheet to review. It’s a reusable dry erase sheet that uses static cling to stick!

The sheet sticks to hard surfaces like wood, drywall, and glass; and the sheet comes off just as easily. Since it sticks with static cling, it won’t leave residue.

You can roll the sheets up or fold them to take with you to work, school, meetings, etc. The Magic Letter Sheets come in packs of 20 and are also available in pink and green. Each sheet measures 8.25″ x 11.75,″ so the size is close to that of a sheet of printer paper.

Magic Whiteboard Products also sells dry erase gridded sheets, white sheets, and clear sheets that are similar in size to a flip chart. These products come in large rolls from 40-65′ long. Many of their products (like the gridded sheet) are designed so the writing becomes “permanent” after a few minutes to preserve your work. However, the writing is still removable in most cases by using a damp cloth to wipe (see my notes below under “Our Experiences”).

How are they green? Well, they are made of plastic #5, which is difficult to turn in for recycling in many communities. However, if your local recycling center won’t accept #5, you can drop them off at many Whole Foods stores and other locations that participate in the Gimme 5 program by Preserve. The other option is to ship your #5 plastics (which you probably have in your fridge right now) to Preserve. What I DO think is green about the Magic Whiteboard products is the fact that they can be used over and over so many times. For example, the Magic Whiteboard roll has 25 sheets in it that can be used up to 20 times. That’s equivalent to 500 flip chart sheets!

In addition to the whiteboard-style products, Magic Whiteboard Products also has Magic Blackout Blinds, Magic Sticky Notes, and Magic Blackboard sheets available.

Our Experiences:

When my Magic Whiteboard Letter Sheet arrived in the mail, Hubby was pulling a duty day on his ship. He’d left at about 5:30 in the morning, and we were expecting him back the afternoon of the next day. I used the included magic eraser to write “Welcome Back, Daddy, We Missed You” on the sheet. Then I stuck the sheet to the wall next to the door. Well, it stayed there until J came home, and it still stayed there, and the next day, and the next, and I finally pulled it down after a week once I realized it would stick probably forever (okay, maybe not forever, but I can’t exactly test that theory, so who knows?).

This is where I usually insert a nice photo of the product in my reviews…but I have an almost-9-month old son…who somehow was able to reach and grab the letter sheet off the table…and then crumpled it up. I rescued it and smoothed it out, but it still looks a little messed up. Sorry 🙁

I wish I’d had a pack of these during my teaching days, or one of Magic Whiteboard’s other products. When my children are a little older, I do plan to return to the classroom, and now that I know about these products- I’ll be using them! The Magic Blackboard Letter Sheets look perfect for kids to color on (which is probably why they’re currently out of stock), and I’m planning on getting a pack for Baby J once he’s a little older.

I was curious to see how easy it would be to erase the sheet when the writing had been there for a while, so I left marks on the sheet for more than two weeks. I wasn’t able to wipe them off with my finger, but they came off with a damp cloth and some light scrubbing.

Overall, I found the Magic Whiteboard Letter Size Sheet to be:

  • Easy to use
  • Easy to clean
  • Long-lasting
  • Economical
