Myrtle Beach vs. Virginia Beach

We’re back from vacationing at Myrtle Beach, SC. Since we live in the Hampton Roads area (Virginia Beach, VA), I was comparing the two beach towns. This was actually my second time visiting Myrtle Beach. I think Myrtle Beach is more commercialized with more touristy things to do, if that’s what you’re looking for. There are more beach/surf shops, miniature golf, haunted houses, etc. Virginia Beach has two strips of shops, hotels, and restaurants running parallel to the beach, but that’s about it. When you spread out a block away from the water, you immediately hit housing communities. The Virginia Beach economy doesn’t seem to thrive on tourism alone, which is the impression I got from Myrtle Beach. As far as the beaches themselves, it’s about the same. Ocean beaches are never going to be as gorgeous as Gulf of Mexico beaches. *sigh* I miss Florida!

  1. I admit, I had to chuckle slightly at the “Ocean beaches are never going to be as gorgeous as Gulf of Mexico beaches,” because the Gulf beaches in Texas are some of the ugliest you will ever see. The sand is ugly, the water is murky and muddy, and it’s always the temperature of a nice, warm bath. But then I realized, it’s probably not like that in Florida, lol. I still want to go to Hilton Head, though.

    1. Hi Melissa, thanks for commenting! Hahah, well, I haven’t seen Texas Gulf beaches, so I guess I don’t know. But I’ve been to lots of Florida beaches, and they’re lovely! =D
