I like maxi dresses, but I hemmed and hawed for a few months before buying an Ana dress. This was partly because at $60, it’s a little pricier than I want to pay for a dress. Second, I knew it wasn’t going to be floor length on me because I saw from photos online that it’s floor length on women who are shorter than I am. But when a friend threw a Facebook LLR party, I found an Ana dress in a pattern I liked, and I finally bought one. I’m 5’10,” and my weight is usually around 160 pounds, so I generally wear a size 8 or 10 in clothes, depending on the brand. I bought the Ana in a Medium, which is supposed to fit dress sizes 8-10. 
I love the pattern, and the dress fabric is very soft and comfortable. I also like the style, but I do have two concerns about the dress:
1. You may or may not be able to tell in the photo below, but it’s really tight around my ribcage and my arms. I do have a large ribcage, and my waist is not very defined compared to my ribs and hips, so if you’re a similar weight and dress size, you may not have this problem depending on your build. However, because of the tightness, I later purchased the LLR Julia dress (my favorite!!!!) in a Large.
2. I’m not thrilled about the awkward length of the dress on me. Again, I knew that was going to happen, so even before I ordered the dress, I knew it was going to have to be all about the booties. In these photos I’m wearing the dress with some casual flat booties, but I’ve worn the dress to work with black, high-heeled, ankle-length boots. The dress really shows off the boots, and I’ve received several compliments on them. I’ve tried wearing the dress with sandals and flats (shoes not boots), and it looks sooooo awkward, like I couldn’t find a dress long enough. I snapped a quick photo at work, so you can see a dressier look with this Ana:
So the bottom line is that I probably won’t buy another Ana again because they are expensive for a dress that really isn’t long enough (or short enough!) for me. I think it would fit someone around 5′ 7″ a lot better.
UPDATE: Thanks to Stacy’s comment below, I did try sizing up with a Large Ana. I still found the sleeves and ribcage a little tight, especially considering I’ve lost weight since I originally posted, but the length on the Large is just about right for me. I will post photos soon!

Thanks for posting this! I love an easy maxi dress, but at 6′, I want to make sure the length hits my feet. Not the Ana!

I wish I saw this before I bought my first ana! I’m also 5’10”. Its so pretty but unfortunately looking at my ankles in what is supposed to be a floor length dress is annoying. Have you tried any maxis?
Hi Amethyst, no, I haven’t. I’m worried about having the same issues, so I’ve just stuck with their knee/midi-length skirts and dresses since I bought the Ana.
Hi! I am also tall- 5’11, and normally about 150-160#. The medium maxi is PERFECT on me as far as length! And with the waistband the way it’s constructed, you can adjust the length by a good 6″ (guesstimate) I’m thinking I’d probably need a large in the Ana, but after seeing this post, I don’t want to even try ordering one online So, if I did a large, I wonder if the bust area would be too roomy… I have a small chest, but very broad shoulders, so that takes up some slack… help! Haha
I resisted the Ana for quite a while but when I took the plunge I was fortunate to have consultant tell me to size up one or two which make the arms and rib cage a better fit…it also gives you several e trap inches in length….so I am one tall girl who Loves my Ana.
That should read gives me extra inches in length…

I have a large Ana and love it. I am 5’10” and wear size 10. Compared to the med, the arms aren’t too tight and the length is perfect for me.
I’m 59 and a ml and I prefer an extra large all the way up to a 3XL. I also like that floor-sweeping length 🙂 I just have to change the height of shoes that I wear according to which length Ana.
Would someone clue me in on the rue length on ana dress. I just need the total length in inches, so I’ll have some idea. I’ve gone in circles trying to find the real, live length in inches………..and nothing I’ve read provides the information.
Hi Maggie, I just measured mine, and my large Ana is 61″ from the top of the shoulder to the bottom of the front hem. My medium Ana is about 55.5″ from the top of the shoulder to the bottom of the front hem. I hope that helps.
I have purchased 4 Anas on EBay and haven’t paid more than $35 for any of them. I’m 5’10” and bought XL size. They are long ….almost too long on a few. I love them even though they are a little tight around the arms and bodice. I wear a 12. Looking for more!
