Review: Sunny Sleevez

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Now that winter is most definitely over, it’s time to get outside and enjoy some gorgeous spring weather! Summer will be here soon, bringing heat waves and sun rays. I’ll be slathering on the sunblock; I’m a bit fanatical about it. You see, in college I was one of those girls who’d lay out in the sun and slather on baby oil everywhere. After college, I had less time for the beach, but I’d still frequent the tanning salon. I regret those days. There are little freckles or sun spots on my arms now, that I didn’t have growing up. If that’s the sun damage I can see, I’m scared about what I can’t.

Skin cancer rates have been increasing. About one in five Americans will be diagnosed with skin cancer during their life. By the way, the CDC states  in reference to indoor tanning beds that “people who begin tanning younger than age 35 have a 59% higher risk of melanoma.” There are other equally frightening statistics out there, and I sometimes feel like a walking time bomb!

I can’t do anything about the damage I’ve already done, but I can protect my skin from more harm. This summer I’ll be reaching for my new Sunny Sleevez. They are UV-blocking sleeves that are designed to keep you cool while blocking 98 percent of UV rays.

The sleeves come in four adult sizes (0, 1, 2, and 3) as well as numerous colors and patterns. They provide 50 UPF protection from the sun and are made with 90 percent nylon and 10 percent spandex. They fold or roll up tiny, so it’s easy to keep them in a purse, diaper bag, or even your pocket.

I found the sleeves very comfortable and moisture-wicking. Because my underarms were still bare, it was a lot cooler to wear my sleeves with a tee, instead of a long-sleeved shirt. I’ve worn mine biking and running, as well as at the beach and at the playground.

Although you can wear the sun sleeves with a tank, it leaves the shoulders bare. Sun shrugs are available, which I think are a better option in this case.

Over time and after a lot of movement, my sleeves do start to slip down a minimal amount, but never very far…maybe a quarter-inch? I do wish the sleeves were longer. In most of the photos on the Sunny Sleevez website, the sleeves come all the way down to the hands on the models wearing them. Mine don’t, but I’m also wearing a size one. I’m a tall woman, so it’s not surprising I have this issue. The next size up is three inches longer, but I’m afraid they wouldn’t stay up on my scrawny arms. My sleeves still fully protect my arms, it’s just an odd length on me. #tallpersonproblems

Overall, I think these sleeves are a great idea and would like a pair for my son. They come in kids sizes too! Although I buy sunblock with good ratings by the EWG, I still hate putting chemicals on both my skin and Baby J’s. These sleeves are a healthier option.

Something else that occurred to me- these sun sleeves would be great for someone who spends a lot of time on the road. When I drive for a couple of hours or more, a lot of times my left arm ends up a little darker than my right, because the sun’s rays of course come right through the window while I’m driving. It would be easy to keep one or two of these in the car and pull on when needed.

And finally, I mentioned Sunny Shrugz in one of my photo captions above, and those are available for both adults and children as well. You can even get UV-blocking blanket and scarves.

What do you think? Would you give Sunny Sleevez a try? What family activities would you wear them during?

Review: Nuby Insulated Clik-It Sipper

Nuby Clik-It Insulated Sipper. Find out more on My Life: A Work in Progress

I have another fun Nûby product to share with you today! Nûby sent us the new No-Spill Insulated Cool Sipper to review. It’s the newest sippy cup in our cupboard and our favorite.

First, I love the Clik-It technology, and I’m so glad Nûby came out with a line of Clik-It cups. Just today I handed Baby J a sippy cup (it wasn’t a Nûby cup); he tipped it back to drink and dumped water all over himself, because I didn’t put the lid on properly. Oops. I’m just glad it was water and not milk. With the Clik-It cups this won’t happen. You know if you hear that “click,” the lid is on properly.

The cup is BPA-free and available in several fun colors.

Because this cup is insulated, it also keeps drinks cooler longer than a regular sippy cup without a “sweating” cup that gets all over everything. It’s my favorite cup to toss in the diaper bag. I even chose it as the one cup Baby J and I took with us to Florida to visit Hubby. It’s usually the one we take to church too, so it’ll keep his water cool for several hours while he plays in the nursery.

Jogging with Mama…Baby J gets thirsty too!

It’s important to get the spout into the lid properly, or the lid will leak…so watch for that. It’s a soft spout, by the way, unlike some of the other insulated cups I’ve seen. I’m very happy with this cup, and I wish all of Baby J’s cups had the Click-It feature!

You can buy Nûby’s Clik-It cups from Target.

Also, if you’re a parent (or grandparent) of young kids, I highly recommend that you follow Nûby on their social media accounts. They constantly host fun giveaways:

Review: Tools4Wisdom Weekly Planner

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Tools4Wisdom Weekly Planner- Read my thoughts on My Life: A Work in Progress

When I think of someone who uses a daily or weekly planner, a very organized, nitpicky person comes to mind. But then I always remember that someone like me -at the opposite end of the spectrum- should definitely be using one!

During college I was diligent at keeping a planner, in order to keep track of assignments, rehearsals, and classes. I used one a little bit during grad school, but since I was only taking 2 or 3 classes at a time, it was easier for me to keep track of project due dates without a dedicated planner. While I was pregnant, I used a planner daily, mostly because Hubby was deployed, and I lived alone. It was the only way I could keep track of work, travel, and OB appointments, all while planning for and then moving to another state. After that I just fell out of practice using one.

I’ve generally been pretty good at keeping my professional life organized, but at home, as a mom…it’s easy for me to get sidetracked and forget what I’d planned to be doing. After my husband gets home this summer, we’ll be transferring to a new duty station several hours north of here, in another state. In the meantime, I have a long list of things to accomplish, so I’ve started using a planner again.

The Tools4Wisdom Weekly Planner has your typical calendar areas where you can see the month, weeks, and days. I like that the days are broken down into 30-minute increments, which make it easy to list appointments.

This planner also has sections where you can write out your personal and professional goals and ideas, and then list them by priority. There are also areas for monthly and weekly priorities, errands, etc. The back of the planner also has a notes and reflection area.

I’ve been using this planner for blogging too. It doesn’t have blogging-specific areas (PR contact info, log-in info, etc.) to write in, so it may not work as a blogging planner for everyone, but I like having all aspects of my life organized in one place.

It’s spiral bound, and the covers are protected with thick plastic sheets. The pages themselves are thick too. Overall, I thought it was a sturdy planner.

There are two things I don’t like about this planner. One is that holidays aren’t marked, so I have to write them in myself. Perhaps this planner is meant to be sold and used outside the United States? Although the Gregorian calendar is used in many countries around the world, obviously the holidays are going to differ; that’s the only reason I can figure to not have our holidays printed in this calendar.

The second thing that could use improvement is to add a page or two that shows all 12 months. I know it’s a weekly planner, so most of the pages should be dedicated to that, but I find it very convenient sometimes to glance at a single page and look two or three months ahead.

I should also note that this is a very large planner, so unless you’re hauling around a briefcase, laptop bag, or large diaper bag, you probably won’t carry this with you. It’s not going to fit in a small purse. I don’t mind that much, but it could be an issue for some people. Of course, if the planner were smaller, it would have to be more “bare bones” and exclude many of the areas I’ve mentioned above.

If you’re looking for a planner, but aren’t entirely sure this one has everything you need, Tools4Wisdom does have other planners available (including a “mom” planner). You can find this weekly planner and more on (affiliate link>Amazon.

Do you use a planner? How do you stay organized?
